Aretha Franklin Receives Honorary Degree From Princeton University

According to Princeton University, Aretha Franklin is worthy of being called “Doctor Franklin”. The “Queen of Soul” recently received an honorary doctorate from the prestigious university.

Princeton marks the third honorary doctorate for Franklin who also has other Doctorate of Music honorary degrees from Yale University and the Berklee College of Music.

The 70-year-old singer, who dropped out of high school at age 15 to care for her baby, is one of only six recipients of the highly prestigious award.

Franklin’s singing career spans over five decades, all the way back to 1960 , when she first started recording. Even a after a health scare in 2010, she does not appear to be slowing down.
