Mitt Romney Visits an All-Black Charter School and Ends Up Looking Silly

It’s funny when they try to relate to black people and just can’t do it.  This is what happened to the most famous Mormon in America when he tried to visit a charter school in Philadelphia.  Already awkward, Romney has been trying with a light hand to grab a  few black voters here and there, but it might be difficult to compete with Obama.  Just call this a courtesy visit:

From the Washington Post:

Romney arrived at Universal Bluford Charter School aboard his logo-emblazoned campaign bus and began his morning visit by meeting school and civic leaders at a formal roundtable session. “I come to learn, obviously, from people who are having experiences that are unique and instructive,” he said …

He opted for a charter school that’s run by a Philadelphia-based non-profit and took over a troubled public school. But the charter school is on warning from the state because it hasn’t made academic progress in the first two years of its existence.

Meeting with a group of black education leaders and charter school administrators, Romney touted a three-prong approach to achieving better educational outcomes for disadvantaged students: better teachers, better administrators and two-parent homes.

Romney’s discussion of a two-parent home wasn’t something he emphasized when he spoke on Wednesday in Washington D.C. about his education platform. But it was a common theme on Thursday during his roundtable discussion …

But the venue didn’t offer the friendliest of receptions for the presumptive GOP nominee …

Outside, meanwhile, some brick row houses across from the school were boarded up. Police had cordoned off a full city block to protect Romney and his entourage …

Inside the school, Romney debated issues with educators and tried to connect with the students. When he visited a classroom where the kids in the elementary school choir were standing, swaying and clapping to the beat of Kirk Franklin’s “I Smile,” Romney appeared charmed but did not dance with them. Rather, he tapped one of his toes slightly and bobbed his head, but did not catch the rhythm …

“You just sang a song about smiling,” Romney told the kids. “You’re all smiling right? Smile! Oh, that’s great.”

I hope Romney visits more Black schools and has more of these experiences. We need more posts like this. Obviously, he is disconnected from the masses of people who do not live the way he does. Talking about two-parent homes would be an insult to the parents who are there. He should find the parent who has abandoned the family and give them a speech about the importance of a two-parent home. No need to preach to the choir. What is he going to do about the neighborhoods with boarded up homes and buildings? America is not a business; it is a country.

I agree. I hope Romney doesn’t think that there isn’t any white single parent families who are just as bad off as any other family but not as much polarized as black and hispanic families.

How in the world has this journalist missed the most important thing that Mit did at this school.

The very first time we say Mit wit a group of Black Children he was holding up his had shouting “Who Let The Dogs Out”

Yesterday the Media showed a Clip of Romney participating in a classroom exercise with the children.

The teacher asked the kids to make up a sentence with a particular word, it wasn’t dog.

Romney, created a sentence with the word “DOG” completely leaving out the word provided in the instructions provided by the teacher.

Why is it that every time this man is with Black Children he uses the word “DOG”

Can you you journalist and the Media really be this dismissive? Or is it intentional.

This is not a coincedence and this man actually views the children in that mannor.

Mitt Romney is typical of any politician – smile for the camera and at the same time disconnecting with you. Mitt Romney looks and acts fake and insincere. The world is better with Obama.

Even if Romney does not win this election; God help us if he or any politician remotely like him (completely out of touch) is elected 4 years from now and in anytime in the future. Black folks especially, need to have a plan B, C, D, E and F…

Willard Romney’s inability to connect with everyday Americans of any race is well-established and well-documented. He is the worst kind of panderer, since he has been appealing to the most reactionary elements of the GOP in order to win the nomination. Now, he’s trying to tack to the center to appeal to folks outside the GOP, which continues to mark him as an unethical shape-shifter who will say and do anything to win the presidency. Someone who has a record of governing over a state that ranked 47th out of all 50 in job creation and has a well-deserved reputation as a vulture capitalist for all the companies he bankrupted, firing thousands of employees in the bargain, is not someone who should be anywhere near the WH except as a tourist.

This man is so far out of touch with people of color, poor and other minority that is trying to make it on a salary just above the minimal wage. I would hate to see some one that so far out of touch elected as President. The jobs he would create would pay about 13.68 an hour if that much. Remember he said he love handing out pink slips just to line his pocket.
